Young Vets, hear from Dr Jorge about his work with equines at WVS

Vets in action: Meet a supervet

Say hi to Dr Jorge, our expert on equine veterinary care. He took some time out of his busy life to share some wisdom with you!

How did you decide to be a vet?

"Because of my huge love for animals! I was always with them and I felt a beautiful connection."

Why did you choose to specialise in equine science?

"Good question! I grew up in the city Iquique in the desert in northern Chile, which does not have horses. I did an internship before graduating vet school and I felt that they were very noble and intelligent animals. I love that they are large creatures but at the same time delicate and powerful."

What advice do you have for aspiring vets?

"Listen to your heart and decide on a profession that you love and enjoy. Everything is possible: believe in yourself, put in effort and have perseverance. We must enjoy life and most importantly be happy and be good people, taking care of everything around us."

What's your favourite animal and why?

"My favourite animals are horses and dogs. I decided to work with the horses and take care of them. I love how they run and express themselves and they also smell very good!"

Tell us about your favourite project you're currently working on:

"I work around the world with horses and also with social projects providing education for people in need. I am also writing a book about our beloved horses, explaining what they are like, how they communicate and their general care."

What's your final comment, Dr Jorge?

"Dear friends, always stay curious, our world is wonderful. Laugh, play, and study to become a good animal doctor so you can heal many animals and give
them love."
